Private Ryan

This is a project done for the Building Virtual Worlds (BVW) module. It is a balancing game done using a wireless Oculus VR set-up with full body tracking using two Kinects. The user can experience walking on high and thin platforms and feel the full effect of the fear of heights in a safe environment. Gameplay includes keeping balance and reaching out for objects that can potentially put you off balance.

 

Making this game involved a lot of technical challenges. My team needed to overcome Oculus drift errors, noisy Kinect data and high network latency to ensure a smooth, believable experience for the guests. I primarily worked on smoothing the Kinect data to make the tracking the stable, the helicopter and human animations and the physics riggings in the game. I also helped in figuring out the source and the solution to the Oculus drift errors.
